So many people believe that they can do a long distance drive themselves and ultimately end up getting into trouble as a result of this mistake. If you are living on the East Coast or in a populated area, you may be used to driving long distances but will be unprepared for what awaits you if you decide to apply that same kind of skillset to the travel between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Flying into Las Vegas on a vacation and then deciding to make a trip to the Grand Canyon from that starting point is a common thing that many tourists attempt to do. They notice once they’re in Las Vegas that they are actually very close to the Grand Canyon compared to where they typically live. For this reason they decide that it will be a good idea to cross a Grand Canyon tour off of their bucket list simply because they have made it to an area so close for another vacation. It can’t hurt to take a day out of your vacation to Las Vegas to make the drive to the Grand Canyon in order to see one of the most scenic areas on earth. Unfortunately for many people, thinking this way ultimately proves to be a serious mistake. If you have never driven across the desert before , you are probably unprepared for this task. The trip between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon takes 4 1/2 hours through completely open desert meaning that there is almost nothing as far as development along the way. Every 100 miles or so you might get a small rest area where you can get some gas or maybe something to eat, but when you are tired  and don’t want to be driving anymore even the 100 miles in between the rest areas can seem like an eternity. Driving across the open desert offers almost no visual stimulation at all due to the fact that the landscape looks very much the same for the entire trip . On Top of this is the fact that you will probably receive no radio stations in the car as well as having almost no cell service for the entire trip. Unpopulated areas are quite shocking to people that have no experience with them, and ultimately they have to realize that this is not something to be taken lightly. If you are to break down in the middle of the desert at night, it is very unsafe not only from the standpoint of the desert animals that are out there , but also the fact that other drivers are not equipped to react fast enough if you are standing on the side of the road. Simply put, it isn’t a good idea to take this trip very lightly because many things can go wrong.

One of the best things that you can do if you want to see the Grand Canyon is to allow a tour operator based in Las Vegas to do the driving for you. The tour operators that offer Grand Canyon tours are going to make all of the arrangements for you so your trip will be comfortable and you will not need to worry about the unfamiliar drive across the desert in an unfamiliar car. Do not make the mistake of putting yourself into a situation that you do not have a backup plan for, leave the driving to the pros.
