There are multiple places that you can view the Grand Canyon. Many people think that the Grand Canyon is only the area inside of the national park, but this is actually not true. The Grand Canyon itself is many miles long and stretches for large amounts of space outside of the protected area that is located near Page AZ. The real difference is that the most spectacular views and impressive scenery is within the protected space, and if you are looking to just see a smaller version of the dramatic canyon walls there are many alternative areas to visit. The specific area of the national park was created by judging the total area of the canyon that was controlled by the United States, then choosing the best area for tourists to visit. There are areas of the Grand Canyon that are not controlled by the US government, and instead are controlled by Navajo Nation. Naturally, these areas will have different rules regarding visitation and development. The difference between the main viewing areas in 2019 is the south rim or the west rim. The south rim is the traditional viewing point that was designated by the US government within the national park. It is protected from development, and has been outfitted with both convenience elements to make visitation to the area easy, as well as developed for tourist adventures. This means there is a wealth of things to do once you are in the area, ranging from donkey and helicopter rides to hiking and photography. Camping is also permitted within the national park area. Most people are probably confused by that statement, thinking that there are more than one Grand Canyon. While it is certainly not true that there are multiple canyons known as "The Grand Canyon," there are multiple viewing points of the same Grand Canyon. If you are a fan of the outdoors, then you would probably enjoy exploration of some of the national parks and protected areas of our American southwest. Some of the most striking areas on earth are found in this region, ranging from the landscapes of Zion National Park to the hoodoos in Bryce or the incredible sand walls of Antelope Canyon. Of course the Grand Canyon is also one of the most recognizable places on earth due to it's absolutely magnificent views. All of these are located within a half-day drive of Las Vegas, and because of this fact it is a good idea to plan a little extra time out of your Las Vegas vacation to visit them. Generally our most popular tours that visit the Grand Canyon are multi-day adventures that will also visit other national parks in the area. We will generally approach it this way because the amount of time that it takes to drive from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon is relatively significant (roughly 4.5 hours) and will take a good portion of your day. When you travel that much of a distance to just get to the park entrance, it doesn't leave you a lot of time for exploration before the sun starts to go down. We prefer to have the Grand Canyon be a stop on one of our multi-park tours because we can minimize the driving time on any one day by traveling to the nearest park first, then on to the next one after that. Because the national parks are generally closer to each other than to the city, we find that our guests have a more interesting experience, and also get to see multiple national parks which are all unique in their own way. Our Grand Canyon tours will also visit Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley. Longer tours will also visit areas like Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell. We were called upon by our guests to provide a tour product that would visit the Grand Canyon alone, due to the fact that so many tourists in Las Vegas want to visit the canyon, but don't have enough time to spend three days doing it. Every year millions of visitors come from all over the world to visit Las Vegas. Generally they will be booking vacations somewhere between a few days to a week, and they will try to see as much of the offerings of Las Vegas entertainment as possible while they are here. They will try to eat at several different restaurants, visit several casinos and see different shows. One of the things that they will usually realize pretty quickly is that almost all of the entertainment in Las Vegas is indoors, and for outdoor enthusiasts you may find that there is not a lot to do. This is where the proximity of Las Vegas to many national parks comes in handy, and can make your trip to Las Vegas far more of an adventure than you might have expected. Outdoor enthusiasts will want to schedule at least a few days out of their trip to get away from the city and to experience the unbelievable and beautiful national parks that are within a half day drive of the city. There are about five parks that are all tourable within a few hours drive, and if you book a multiple day tour with us you will visit them all. If you book a seven day tour you will visit just about every national park and protected space in the area, but most will choose our three day tour and see a smaller variety. Tours of Death Valley during the summer can be uncomfortable, and the temperatures can actually get so high that it is not safe to stay outside for very long. During these times, we will generally change the way that we present our tours of the area so that our patrons spend more time inside the van than out in the elements. There are times when the area gets so hot that we decide to cancel tours all together until it cools down a little, just because out guest's safety is the most important thing to us. But what is interesting is that Death Valley does not change that much visually from summer to winter, and the only real difference is the heat itself. In the springtime you will probably see more wildflowers than you will at other times of year, but if you were to choose between winter and summer for a Death Valley tour, we would suggest winter. During that time, the temperatures outside are pleasant and potentially a little chilly, which makes for perfect weather for hiking and exploration. If you are going to try to get a real up close look at the topography and plants of the area, winter is the time to do it. In the winter our tours are changed to present our guests with more time outside exploring the unique aspects of the different areas, instead of just viewing them from the bus and for short exploration times. Tours of the Grand Canyon leaving from Las Vegas can be very different in the winter and summer. Most people who are planning this type of tour will have lots of questions about everything from the weather and expected temperatures to snow.  While the Grand Canyon may be more stable in weather from season to season than you are used to on the east coast, there is still seasonality in the area that can make the experience quite different from summer to winter. That being said, winter tours of the Grand Canyon are a wonderful experience that are just a little cooler than you can expect in the summer. We offer Grand Canyon tours year round in two different versions. We offer a private tour that visits only the Grand Canyon with your group and no outsiders, and we also offer tours of the Grand Canyon as part of our multi-park tours as well. On these tours, you will be part of a diverse group of travelers that will visit multiple national parks like Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley. Depending on the length of the tour, you may also visit numerous other national parks and protected spaces. We prefer to treat our guests to these longer versions of tours because the amount of time it takes to travel from Las Vegas to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is almost a half day. This means that if we are only going to visit the Grand Canyon for a limited amount of time, we are spending almost as much time driving as exploring. Instead, we prefer to do a "tour loop" which visits parks in succession based upon not only their distance from Las Vegas but also their distance from each other. Antelope Canyon is one of the most intriguing places on earth. It is visually unlike anything that exists on the planet, a slot canyon that has been carved over thousands of years through the sandstone floor of the rock by flash flooding. Rain from different parts of the desert collect and flow quickly through the area, ultimately following the same path over and over again and deepening the carved canyon every time they pass through. Because the canyon was carved by flash flooding and not by continually flowing water, there is a danger that goes along with touring the canyon. Flash flooding comes without warning, and can sweep away and kill anyone in the canyon when it happens. For this reason there have been numerous steps taken to insure the safety of guests, including safety railings and other aspects that can allow people to hold on if water was to rush through. The most important safety feature is that they do not allow tours by any group that is not certified as understanding the dangers, and will not allow tours of any kind if there is a possibility of a flash flood in the area. This means any rainfall at all within about a five mile radius of the canyon, which is continually observed by both the National Weather Service and by Navajo Nation who operate the canyon tours. We prefer to do Antelope Canyon tours as part of multiple park tours. The reason for this is that the weather is unpredictable, and it is almost impossible to know if you will be able to tour the park on the day that you want to, when making plans in advance.
